Hey Team Beto, Rachel here! This week, Beto participated in the March For Our Lives/Giffords gun violence prevention forum in Las Vegas, where he remained the only candidate in the 2020 race to endorse the March For Our Lives Peace Plan For a Safer America - a platform to end gun violence that includes a mandatory buyback program for assault weapons. In today’s issue, we’ll dig into more on the forum and Beto for America’s upcoming weekend of action, where supporters will be organizing around gun violence across the country.

Roadrunner
Beto started a five-day swing across Nevada, California, and Arizona this week, where he shared his vision for combating gun violence and stood with fearless young people across the country in calling for bold solutions to end this epidemic.
At the beginning of the week, Beto penned an op-ed in Teen Vogue, where he called on the rest of the 2020 field to join him in supporting the March For Our Lives Peace Plan, a slate of bold solutions to cut the number of firearm deaths and injuries in half over the next decade, including a mandatory assault weapons buyback program. In the op-ed, Beto wrote, “We can stick by what we’ve been doing - playing it safe, while we beg Mitch McConnell to take action on the floor of Congress. Or we can follow the lead of the students marching for their lives and for all of ours, who are demanding we do more to protect them.”

At the March For Our Lives/Giffords forum on Wednesday, Beto reiterated the call for fearlessness when it comes to standing up for what’s right, even when it may feel politically unpopular, and for refusing to let the NRA dictate how far we’re willing to go to end this epidemic. By the end of the forum, he remained the only candidate to back the Peace Plan endorsed by young people across the country. Think we can all jump for that.

Following the forum, Beto met with trauma surgeons who have seen the consequences of gun violence in their work in emergency rooms and hospitals across the country and later visited the Healing Garden and memorial honoring the 58 lives lost in the Last Vegas shooting two years ago.
